Title: The Five Dysfunctions of a Team
Author: Patrick Lencioni

In Patrick Lencioni’s 2002 book on leadership he addresses the major dysfunctions within a team. Using the effective technique of storytelling, he identifies five major pitfalls that inflict many teams and organizations. As he shows, “teamwork remains the ultimate competitive advantage, both because it is so powerful and so rare. It is also very difficult.” For those who find the role-association of stories to be a plodding exercise jump to The Model section of the book for a succinct explanation of Patrick’s insights. Here is one excerpt if you need any convincing: “…it is important to note that many teams are simply not results focused. They do not live and breathe in order to achieve meaningful objectives, but rather to merely exist and survive.”
