Sample Case Study (click to download).
“We trained hard, but it seemed every time we were beginning to form up into teams, we would be reorganized. I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new situation by reorganizing, and a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while producing confusion, inefficiency and demoralization.”
From Petronii Arbitri Satyricon AD 66 (Attributed to Gaius Petronus, a Roman General)
Then - The Client Problem
The new CIO took over a team that was used to acting independently but was not effective in meeting the demands of a dynamic and growing business. It seemed that getting even the most basic job done was problematic. It was difficult to get estimates and accurately monitor key projects; the CIO wasn’t certain that all work was been tracked, and faced regular challenges from the Executive Committee on state of IT. The IT staff appeared to be hard-working, but tensions were rising in the department. Too much work was a frequent complaint for the team members.
About - The Conall Group Solution
The problem was clear at the outset. The IT staff was in the early stage of team evolution. New management, turnover and an accelerating business all had an impact on team effectiveness. Through interviews and workshops we worked with the CIO and the managers to address the key issues impacting performance.
Now - The Results
The workshop created a basis for building trust and open dialogue in a safe environment. The participants gained an understanding of effective team work and developed a statement of department priorities, as well as creating working groups to progress key initiatives. The working sessions were augmented by fun at Chelsea Piers Sport Center, with bowling and rock climbing used for team building exercises.
